Remote Psychotherapy - does it work?

Updated: Jan 15, 2022

About 20% of the psychotherapy I used to provide was online and remote. It worked well and aid workers working in some of the most inhospitable parts of the world were able to seek support at a time most needed. For whatever reasons other clients were not able to attend face-to-face sessions.

With Covid-19, 100% of the psychotherapy that I am currently providing is now online and remote. It continues to work well.

Whilst therapists may not have access to connecting with the whole body language of their clients given it is usually the face one has a view of, the intensity of facial expressions and closeness of connection with the therapist goes some way to make up for what may be lacking.

The human experience is shared whether we connect remotely or face-to-face. I would encourage all who require support and help for any mental health concerns to reach out and do so. Give online therapy a go and see how you get on.

Keep safe, well and socially distance yourself.
