Addiction

No matter what your addiction, support is available to you. When moving away from addiction, the biggest challenge is dealing with the physiological addiction of the sensation that the addictive substance (and/or behaviour) brings.

Even when the mind knows that substance / addictive behaviour is bad for you and is interrupting the effectiveness with which you can lead your life, the craving of the sensation makes is very hard to overcome addiction.

With specialist therapy protocols I work with exactly these challenges. Clients are often surprised at how effectively they are able to move towards making valued changes they never thought possible.

It would be my honour to work with you on your journey to wellbeing and better functioning.

Anger

Anger problems can lead to significantly affecting your quality of life and that of those around you. Being angry when there is no actual threat that needs to be warded off can take your attention away from leading a happy, fulfilled and content life.

It would be an honour to work with increasing your insight and awareness as well as managing your concerns with anger. Once you are able to exercise choice in how you behave as well as deal with the unpleasant sensation that arises from anger you are on your path to taking charge and being the agent in your life.

It would be my honour to work with you on your journey to wellbeing and better functioning.

Anxiety / Stress

Anxiety is a normal emotion we all experience from time to time. At times, it is helpful in getting us to realise that our physical body or sense of self is in danger so that we can take effective action. Anxiety is a natural way in which our body responds to real or imagined threat. It becomes problematic when it is not adaptive, and we end up being stressed for prolonged periods of time. It can go on to affect our physical health and immunity. It can devastate one’s sense of wellbeing when they are chronically anxious and fearful. No matter what the cause of your anxiety, know that there is a way to live a valued life with a sense of wellbeing.

It would be my honour to work with managing your anxiety and stress levels to help you on your journey to wellbeing and better functioning.

Burnout

When someone experiences a complete lack of engagement with their work and / or daily life after a long period of chronic stress, that they may have been aware of or not, it can lead to a state of burnout. It leads to experiencing symptoms of depression and can make doing the smallest of tasks feel like you are having to walk through treacle. Working in the City of London, I have worked with numerous people who have suffered from burnout. The light at the end of the tunnel is that burnout is very receptive to intervention and recovery. After just a few sessions, clients are able to feel more energised, alive and hopeful.

couple Therapy

Human relationships are complex and even the best of intentions can lead to misunderstandings. The couple therapy work that I do aims at ensuring all parties are heard and understood without compromising the values they aspire towards in a relationship. Many a couples have been helped by the bespoke couple therapy program devised at Parmi. The program is individualised and aims to focus on the clients’ best hopes, marrying them to a solution focused end. Couples therefore find that after about 6 to 8 sessions they no longer need therapeutic intervention. There is always hope in relationships where there is an element of healthy dynamics which has been lost sight of.

It would be an honour to work with you on your journey to wellbeing and a more fulfilling relationship.

Eating Disorder

Eating disorders take many forms. From anorexia, bulimia, to binge eating and emotional eating. Maintaining control or losing a sense of control in one’s life can lead to an unhealthy relationship with food. Perfectionism is a personality trait I often see linked to eating disorders. Many people who suffer from eating disorders are high achieving and successful.

Unfortunately, the suffering and reduced quality of life they experience as a result of the eating disorder makes it very difficult for them to lead a life that is content and fulfilled.

It would be an honour to work with you on your journey to wellbeing and better functioning where food does not define or shape your life in an unhealthy manner.

Family Therapy

Families are complex and made up of different personalities. Expectations and dynamics can vary. When family members want change so that all members of the family are supported to live a more harmonious life, family therapy can help. Coming to terms with grief, challenging diagnosis / behaviour or illnesses are some reasons why families choose to come together for therapy. Working in a solution focused manner, families can be helped to overcome what may seem like a roadblock or wall in their ability to keep moving together as a helpful unit.

Grief / Loss

Grief and loss are a natural part of our life. None of us will escape the crutches of the three absolutes in life which are ageing, disease and death. It is entirely possible to experience this existential inevitability in a healthy accepting manner which does not take over our ability to continue living a valued life.

When grief and loss comes in the way of leading a life that is valued, in experiencing a sense of wellbeing no matter what the challenge, psychotherapy can be helpful. The therapeutic approaches at Parmi are compassionate, structured and solution focused. Where trauma is present, EMDR https://www.getselfhelp.co.uk/docs/EMDR.pdf can be the choice of treatment.

I am able to offer diagnostic assessments for specific needs such as dyslexia, ADD / ADHD and autism. Students seeking DSA allowances at university or people considering workplace adaptations are ideally suited to seek this assessment.

In the case of acquired brain injury, neuropsychological assessment with cognitive rehabilitation can help minimise the effects of any changes in cognitive function, be it thinking, problem solving, memory or attention. I offer individualised programmes to clients to suit their challenges and welcome working with the rest of professional team treating them.

When middle aged or older adults are concerned about memory loss, they can fear it is the onset of dementia. Many times, anxiety and stress can mimic similar memory loss and can be rectified easily. It is always a pleasure to work closely with clients to increase their insight and awareness so that they are better able to deal with the challenges they experience.

If perfectionism is one of your traits, then anxiety will be no stranger to you. The inability to sit with the discomfort of not performing to your best or achieving all that has been set for you can cause great suffering. Panic attacks, insomnia, restlessness and the fear of the worst happening can come in the way of you reaping the rewards of your very helpful traits.

‘I am not good enough’ is a thought that is common when you have low self-esteem. The thought can take many forms, like ‘I am stupid’ and ‘I am worthless’ but the underlying belief resonates with not being good enough.

Fear of rejection, criticism and more, can stop you from engaging with life in a way that is conducive to you being self-expressed and free. It can stop you from making valued choices that enrich your life.

Knowing it is possible to make value-based choices without self-doubt standing in the way of you enjoying a sense of wellbeing and better functioning in your life can be reassuring to learn.  It would be an honour to work with you as you move away from low self-esteem.
