Neuropsychology
Neuropsychology looks at how the brain and nervous system affects how we function on a daily basis. Clients across the age range typically present with brain injuries, memory problems, concerns about the diagnosis of dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADD / ADHD, autism, dementias and the whole spectrum of neurological conditions. Assessment can help with diagnosis and, where appropriate, management. This may be through cognitive rehabilitation as well as treatment of the challenges faced. Clients comment on being very grateful to have their concerns addressed quickly and in a manner that leaves them with optimum functioning, insight and awareness.
Testimonials
I was a client of Daksha Hirani following an Acquired Brain Injury as a result of a car accident in Kenya in 2008. We had regular therapeutic sessions over the 12 months that I was absent from work, first weekly, then monthly as I recovered.
Daksha first assessed me shortly after my accident and then developed a programme specific to my situation. This included exercises to improve my cognitive functions and anticipating, through the time of my recovery, emotional challenges I would face. It is this powerful combination of a focus on both the mental and emotional aspects of rehabilitation that added real value – Daksha recognised that recovery is a long, slow journey and that I would need a range of interventions; she judged when these interventions would be required with impeccable timing. Throughout our work together, Daksha demonstrated the highest levels of professionalism and knowledge of traumatic brain injuries; she gave clear explanations of symptoms and strategies to overcome emotional blockages.
It is now eleven years since my accident; I will always be thankful to have had Daksha to enable my recovery. If you have to go on this journey, there is no better guide.
Client
In 2008 my husband was involved in a serious car accident in Kenya resulting in an acquired brain injury. We were fortunate enough to have Dr Hirani recommended to us. After an initial assessment Dr Hirani was able to provide us with a home plan of recovery supported by weekly sessions at her surgery. Dr Hirani provided invaluable support not only to my husband, who recovered and was able to resume his previous job as a partner in one of the ‘big 5’ firms, she also provided secondary support to me as his carer advising me how to implement his recovery plan and encouraging me to be fully involved in it, particularly with the mindfulness meditation. Do not underestimate the value of a well led programme. Her kindness and professionalism is second to none. At a later stage in our time in Kenya Dr Hirani was able to test and identify our eldest child as dyspraxic, with Irlen Syndrome. This diagnosis has proven invaluable to help our child get the support she needs at school. I have no hesitation in recommending Dr Hirani.
